CARDIFF AREA GUIDE
As the capital of Wales and one of the largest cities in the UK, Cardiff has tons to offer. It is an exciting, young and growing city, filled with academic excellence spread out over 3 main institutions.
Cathays is a popular area for students due to its proximity to both Cardiff University and Cardiff Metropolis campus. There’s a never ending mass of students in the local pubs based on every corner. Challenge yourself to the quiz night in Gassy Jacks every Monday. You could go ‘quids in’ and get yourself a pound pint from the popular Woodville pub.
If you find yourself stuck with what to do on a rare sunny day why not pack a picnic and head to Bute park where you can enjoy a sensational view of Cardiff castle. Or, make your way to Roath park, where you can hire a pedalo and spend an afternoon out on the lake.
If you aren’t a huge sports fan that will soon change when living in this location. Head into town on a game day and get amongst the passionate Welsh rugby fans. Or, venture to Cardiffs student union or into town on a Wednesday where you are bound to bump into University sports teams.
In Cathays everything is a stone’s throw away. Although, the occasional taxi may be required when you inevitably get caught up in the Welsh weather. You can take a 15 minute walk into town or a direct train to Cardiff Bay where the city has even more to offer. Choose between the ‘Dr Who experience’ or grab your housemates and Go Karting!
Grab a bite to eat
Filled to the brim with hungover students fighting for a seat, Sunday mornings in Cathays would not be the same without the infamous Cafe 37 breakfast. The best breakfast in Cardiff.
Based in the ground of Cardiff’s category B prison, The Clink boasts an award winning and unique dining experience. With a menu created from locally sourced, fresh ingredients and served by the prisoners themselves, this restaurant is a must.
Milgi offers a delicious and entirely plant based menu, with a vegan wine list and a sample of seasonal organic cocktails. With friendly staff, quirky decor and great food, Milgis is a veggie hotspot that can be enjoyed by anyone.
